Ash'aris

Theological school founded by Abu l-Hassani l-Ash'ari. In the 8th and 9th centuries the Ash'aris and the Mu'tazilis were fighting on whose interpretation of Islamic doctrines should be the prevalent.
Ash'aris considered human reason to be an legitimate instrument in Islamic theology. They thought of the Koran as created by God, but eternal in time. God is omnipotent, and has full control over what happens in the world, but man can still be punished for evil acts.
