Herihor
(12th- 11th century BCE) Army officer and high priest of Amon in Ancient Egypt. He founded a dynasty of priest-kings which had virtually full control over southern Egypt, ruling from Thebes.
Herihor did not come from any powerful family, but must have had great success in the army. He married the daughter of General Piankh, which secured his position. It has been suggested that he was in charge of driving the Viceroy of Cush out of Thebes in 1080 BCE.
His claim to royalty was limited to temple reliefs. From the walls of the Temple of Khonsu at Karnak, it can be seen how he had more and more titles. In most circumstances, his title was simply, "High priest of Amon."
