(1949-) Algerian singer and songwriter.
Idir has long been one of the main representatives for the Kabyle music, often performing with little but an acoustic guitar. He has used his position to promote Berber identity, singing in Berber language.
For more than 10 years he was effectively out of the music industry.

Biography
1949: Born in Aït Lahcene, Kabylia, Algeria.
1975: Moves to Paris, France.
1976: Publishes his debut album, A vava inouva.
1993: Publishes his comeback album, Les Chasseurs de lumières.
1999: For his album, Identités, Idir cooperates with several important European musicians.
