Intef 1
Also called: Intef 1 Sehertawy
Other spelling: Inyotef

King of Upper Egypt 2125-2112 BCE, 13 years, belonging to the 11th Dynasty in the First Intermediate Period.
He became ruler after Mentuhotep 1, and ruled from Thebes. Early on, he was a small king, ruling little more than the small region up and south the Nile from Thebes.
His main challenge to control over lands came from the rulers of Herakleopolis and Hierakonpolis. He managed to conquer Koptos, Dendera and Hierakonpolis, allowing him to become the first of his line of kings to use the title of 'Pharaoh'.
He was buried in a saff tomb in Tarif, close to Thebes. His saff, today known as Dawaba, had a court 300 x 54 metres
He was named after his grandfather, who had been nomarch of Thebes and chief priest. He himself, was succeeded by his brother, Intef 2.
