HISTORY
It was founded as a city by the Kerma culture, and became the second most important city in the region.
Around 1500 BCE: As Cush is conquered by King Amenophis 1.
14th century: Amenophis 3 has a temple to Amon built here.
Middle 14th century: The Temple of Amon is destroyed by Akhenaten, who also renames the city Gem-aten, reflecting the new cult of Aten.
Late 14th century: The Temple of Amon is restored by the command of King Tutankhamon.
Around 1170?: The temple loses its position, and would gradually become abandoned.
Around 710: The Cushinte king over Egypt, Shabaqo, adds structures to the temple.
7th century: Taharqa has the temple renovated and enlarged.
23: Sacked by the Romans, who still inlcudes it into their empire.
2nd century: Kawa loses its poistion, and becomes a small settlement only.
