Khenchela

City in northeastern Algeria with 110,000 inhabitants (2005 estimate), at the foot of the Aurès Mountains.
It is the capital of Khenchela province with 370,000 inhabitants (2005 estimate) and an area of 9,811 km².
Khenchela is a the market and administrative centre for the surrounding region where forestry is among the central activities. Khenchela's industries produce timber and clothes. There is also much handicraft production.
Khenchela is connected by road and rail to other urban centres of Algeria. Aïn Beïda lies 50 km north, Batna 100 km west and Tebessa 120 km east.
Khenchela has a small university centre.
