Sahure

Sahure
Sahure's pyramid, Egypt

King of Ancient Egypt, 2nd ruler of the 5th Dynasty, ruling 2491-2475 BCE, 16 years.
He was son of Queen Khentkawes 1 and most likely King Userkaf.
From his reign, we have the first documented expedition to Punt. Sahure is accredited with creating the first Egyptian navy.
He is believed to have built a sun temple, dedicated to Re.
Sahure was the first king to built a pyramid at Abu Sir, being 47 metres high, thereby beginning a new burial ground midway between Giza and Saqqara. The pyramid, as well as the succeeding of the dynasty, represents a decline in construction techniques. Its inner core is made from roughly hewn stones in a step construction which in many sections was held together with a mortar of mud. Still his complex has many details, especially reliefs, of excellent quality.
He was preceded by Userkaf and succeeded by his brother, Neferirkare.
