The large number of statues of Ramses 2 is impressive considering that he was dead before the founding of Tanis. These statues were taken from other temples, and transported to Tanis. That way, grandeur and continuity was added to Tanis. It is important to remember that most of the rulers at Tanis were foreigners, mainly Libyans, and faced the challenge of establishing legitimacy for their rule. As usual with Ramses 2 statues, they have fallen down at some time in history, but the reliefs have survived well.
