LE KEF
Around town

Le Kef is definitely a charming mid-sized town. Walking around the old quarters exhibits a minimalistic architecture. Seldom are the decorations more explicit than what you see on these photos.
Yet, it is hard to grasp the changing and complex history of the town from today's peaceful streets. A past complete with being the headquarters of the national movement of Algeria, a large Jewish community until the 1950's, a reputation of sexual cults in pre-Islamic times and the exile for Carthaginian mercenary soldiers who were not paid for their services.
