Serving as a city gate for two millennias, the monumental gate (below) today has an impression never intended. It feels like its opning has been smashed open, and with the elevated modern town making a slope through it dwarfes it. "Monumental" feels quite misleading today.
The theatre (two top photos), on the other hand, is an obvious attraction. It was built in the 2nd centuy CE according to Roman designs. It is one of the largest in Anatolia, permitting up to 15,000 spectators.
